Samuel Lusk

  • Note*: He was raised and educated in Tennessee, moved to Alabama after marrying in 1823, and came to Texas about 1835. He settled near Washington-on-the-Brazos, was in the Harrisburg guard detail during the Battle of San Jacinto on 21 Apr 1836, and served in the convention that ratified annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845. He was one of the earliest settlers of Brenham, in Washington County, Texas, and was county clerk from 1848 to 1858 and mayor of Brenham from 1858 to 1859. He died during a yellow fever epidemic.1
