He was past president of the Richmond County chapter of Rotary International and continued to support their many philanthropic projects. A recent inductee into the Virginia Commonwealth University Founders Club, he endowed a scholarship to the School of the Arts in memory of his son. Many scholarships for deserving young people were also endowed by him through Saint John's Episcopal Church and Warsaw United Methodist Church, both of Warsaw; Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, New Kent and Chamberlayne Baptist Church, Richmond."¹²

Betty Anne finished her working career with the State of Maryland where she served for 16 years as a real estate tax assessor. ... During his career he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Bars, Army Commendation Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Civic Action Honor Medal 1st Class, and Expert Infantry Badge. After retirement he moved to Lynch [Maryland] and went to work for Lamotte Chemical for 11 years. Bill also lived in Arizona for 25 years where he worked at Palo Verde Nuclear Plant. Bill was an avid history buff and reader and could rattle off sports stats like no one else. He was also a practical joker and foodie before the word foodie was ever known."
