    "ONE OF ESCAMBIA COUNTY’S BEST KNOWN CITIZENS WILL BE LAID TO REST THIS AFTERNOON AT THE CLOPTON CEMETERY.
       "Nat Clopton, one of Escambia county’s best known and most highly esteemed residents, died yesterday afternoon [5 Feb 1914] at 3 o’clock at the family home, 1010 West Belmont street. Organic heart trouble was given as the cause of death.
       "The funeral will take place this afternoon, the cortege leaving the residence at 1 o’clock. Interment will be made at the Clopton cemetery, near Brent, this county, Rev. Mr. Debardiaden, assisted by Rev. M. H. Holt, of the First Methodist church, Pensacola, officiating.
       "The deceased is survived by three brothers, Henry C. Clopton, a member of the legislature, A. G. Clopton and Sydney Clopton; also by a wife and five children. Nat Clopton was a native of Greenville, Ala. He was 52 years of age and had resided here since 1883.
       "The pallbearers for the funeral will be: Willie Henderson, L. R. O’Neal, W. S. Morgan, John A. Jones, W. H. Appelborn and J. C. Van Pelt."5,2

       "MAURICE CLOPTON, RIDING HIS WHEEL ON PALAFOX STREET, SLIGHTLY INJURED WHEN CAR STRUCK HIM WITH MUCH FORCE.
       "Maurice Clopton, residing at 1000 West Belmont street, while riding a bicycle on Palafox street yesterday, was struck by an automobile, said to have been driven by a colored chauffeur, in the employ of Ike Heilbron. The boy was slightly hurt, although no bones were broken. He was picked up and placed in the car which struck him, and quickly conveyed to his home, where a physician saw him.
       "There was no arrest made, as the police were not sure who was responsible. Several stories were circulated, one of them being that the boy was riding recklessly, and had ridden directly into the approaching automobile. His wheel was rendered useless.
       "No report had been filed at the station until midnight."4

       "Amity—William Hugh Loop, prominent farmer west of Amity, route 1, McMinnville, suffered an acute heart attack November 27 [1946] while duck hunting near Oak Grove and died near the lake where he was hunting. He was the son of Manila Farmer and Joseph Loop, born August 30, 1883 in Clayborn [sic; should be Claiborne] county, Tennessee. Came to Oregon with his parents in 1902 and on Aug. 9, 1911, was married to Evelyn Dix, who survives. Four brothers: Kirt and Frank of McMinnville, Roy of San Francisco, Joe of Portland, and one sister, Mrs. Rose Loop McDonald of McMinnville, also two nieces and a nephew who were raised by Mr. and Mrs. Loop; Tillman, who lives at the Loop home, Jean of Oakland, and Audrey Brush of Modesto, Calif. At the time of his passing he was 63 years, 2 months and 27 days of age. Memorial services were held at Macy’s chapel in McMinnville Saturday, Rev. C. E. Brickwedel, pastor of the Amity Baptist church officiating. Burial at Evergreen Memorial park, McMinnville."5

       "McMINNVILLE—C. Roy Loop, 74, McMinnville, died Tuesday in a McMinnville hospital.
       "A native of Tennessee, he moved to Amity with his parents in 1902. He was a graduate of McMinnville High School and Oregon State University and had been employed as a chemist and superintendent by Nestles Co., Bandon, before entering the grocery business in 1924. He operated grocery stores in Oregon, Colorado and Texas until 1942 when he became a civilian employe [sic] of the Army at Seattle, Wash. He returned to McMinnville in 1961 from Tracy, Calif.
       "He was a member of the American Legion, World War I Barracks, the Elks and Masonic lodges and the Shrine Club.
       "Surviving are his widow, Betty, and a brother, Frank, both of McMinnville.
       "Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Macy and Son Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park."10
  • Note*: • He moved from Tennessee to Amity, Oregon with his parents in 1902. He graduated from McMinnville (Oregon) High School and Oregon State University.
