• Note*: From his obituary: "Ed graduated from Hondo [Texas] High School in 1947 and Uvalde Junior College in 1949 . . . . [He and his wife, Amy] resided primarily in San Antonio until building their dream home near Boerne in 1991. Ed spent more than 10 years in the newspaper and printing industry, including The San Antonio Light, La Prensa, and his own LithoPress. In 1964, when cities everywhere were beginning their first urban redevelopment initiatives, Ed went to work for Downtown, Inc. in San Antonio, where his many professional accomplishments included his participation in the planning of HemisFair '68 and instigating the San Antonio River Christmas lighting tradition in the mid-1970s. The late Governor Dolph Briscoe appointed Ed to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission where he served from 1976 to 1982. Also in the late 1970s, he oversaw the purchase, initial restoration, and revival of performance seasons in the historic Majestic Theater. From 1977 until the day he died, Ed served as president of the Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation and as a founding board member of The School at Majestic Ranch."¹

  Died at his home yesterday at 6:30 P.M. Mr. C. R. Pickle, after an illness of about two weeks. He died of erysipelas. He was buried today, Thursday, at the Cummings grave yard. Mr. Pickle was one of our best citizens. His loss will be great to the County. Such men as he are the kind to build up a County and their loss is irreparable. As a good man said today in speaking of his death; If the world was filled with such men as Bob Pickle it would be a pleasant world to live in. He leaves a wife and one child and several children by a former marriage. The editor of the Review extends condolence and deeply grieves at the loss of a friend highly esteemed.²
